Tostartwith,elderlypeoplearemorelikelytohaveage-relateddiseases,diabetesandheartdisease,tonamebuttwo.Thesediseasesmaygrowwithageing,deterioratedbychangesinpersonalhabitsandpollutionproblems.Insuchcase,oldpeoplearesufferingratherthanenjoyinglife,nottomentionthehighcostsofmedicalcare.Thecollateralproblemalongwithincreaseindiseasesisthatitbringsmoreburdenstotheiroffspring,whohavetosharetheresponsibilityoftakingcareoftheirsickparents.Nevertheless,thisisonlyaspecialcaseratherthanageneralrule.
Ontheotherhand,elderlypeopleareactuallygrowinghealthier,happierandmoreindependent.Thankstothedevelopmentinmedicineandnutrition,theso-calledage-relateddiseasesareaffectingfewerpeopleandwhentheydo,itismuchlaterintheirlife.Moreover,oldpeoplenowadaysarebettereducatedthaninthoseinthepast,andtheyknowhowtoenjoytheirretiredlifebydoingmorereading,working-outandtravelling.Insomecases,theyareevenhappytotakegoodcareoftheirgrandchildrenandenjoythereunionwiththeirfamily.Theycanhavefunandtakecareofthemselvesquitewell.Thirdly,theyaremoreindependentbotheconomicallyandmentally.Theycanchoosetotheirownwayoflifeattheirwillwithoutfeelinglonely.Theymayfeelmoreincontroloftheirlives,agoodexamplefortheyoungergenerationtofollow.
Frommypersonalperspective,diseasesmayhurtorevenkilloldpeople,buttheycannotstopthemfrombeingstrongandself-reliant.Thegrayinggenerationisdefinitelystayinginthepink,whichisbeneficialfortheirpersonalwell-beingandthewholesociety.
